The Highland Park Poetry Contest 2019

posted in: News | 0

Based in Illinois, Highland Park Poetry is a community of writers who encourage reading and writing poetry for enjoyment. Comprised of readings, open-mic nights, book launches and competitions, the community hosts a ‘celebration of words’ for its local residents each year.

This year, Laura will judge The Highland Park Poetry Contest.

Now open for entries, the contest accepts submissions from children and adults on the following themes:
1. Chemistry (in honour of the 150th anniversary of Dmitry Mendeleev’s Periodic Table)
2. Oz (in honour of the 100th anniversary of author L. Frank Baum’s death and the 50th anniversary of The Wizard of Oz)
3. Tricube (a simple poetic form comprised of three syllables per line, three lines per stanza and three stanzas per poem).

All winners will be invited to read their poems at Highland Park Public Library Auditorium in April 2019, and selected poems will be featured on The Muses’ Gallery on The Highland Park website.

The deadline for entries is 28th January 2019. Entries can be made via The Highland Park Poetry website. All enquiries should be directed to jennifer@highlandparkpoetry.org. Good luck!
