In recent months, I've come to realise that social media, the news and over-exposure to information makes so much noise in my head. In trying to pull me in, they're pushing me away. Better to settle down with a book, I think. Quiet time is better.

I'm uncomfortable with the notion of watching people who are obviously drunk or high on stage. At some point in the reader-listener exchange, the line between laughing with them and at them is crossed. I tend to make my excuses and leave. That kind of complicity unsettles me.
