Based in Leeds, Yorkshire Dance is a charity which promotes the value of dance in the North of England. This spring, Laura has written a new poem to commemorate the charity’s commitment to dance.
Yorkshire Dance is known for creating opportunities for anyone who would like to encounter dance, whether as a spectator or a performer. They believe that dance, as a creative practice, can be the agent of social change.
Every three months, the charity hosts an Encounters Festival to bring new professional work to the public eye. It allows dance activists and spectators to come together to share food, conversation and performance.
This spring, Laura has been commissioned by Yorkshire Dance and The Writing Squad to create new work marking the first Encounters Festival of 2019.
Laura’s poem, inspired by Zsuzsa Rozsavolgyi’s performance of 1.7, will be exhibited by Yorkshire Dance in the near future.
